I remember as a kid starting with Charmander, losing to Brock so many times I gave up and chose Squirtle instead. I beat Brock but Misty gave me even more trouble. I tried out the green frog thing and I breezed through both Brock and Misty and Surge was free. It was the furthest I had been in the game, decided to keep going and that same Venusaur Ive traded throughout all the mainline games and is now in Pokemon home. I call that a job well done. Venusaur is my goat.
The venasaur line is very powerful in kanto sweeping misty and Brock easily taking neutral damage from poison types powerful against most of the Giovanni pokemon then taking elite four water types and also doing good against bruno and Agatha
In terms of what? Charizard is def the coolest design. But in terms of combat ability its probably Blastoise cus he is a better typing and just has a better stat distribution. If youre asking for a this game specifically and a challenge run of this game then id say Venosaur since water types are abundant and Chsrizard has no real advantage on any of the important and difficult fights in this game.
Venusaur is such a goat and more likely be in pretty good in the new game since it’s gonna be a weather themed venusaur already a good tank with good dmg with sun can out speed so much
