I've always been on top of cleaning up Pokemon storage every time I go out, plus I've been stocking up on mostly Ultra Balls for Go Fest.
After two or three years, Pokemon Go players get a little bit win from Scopely, there is more frequent Larvesta egg hatches.
Should we just give up on getting another 2x transfer event/spotlight hour 😢

Guys, guys, before you transfer out all your xxs and XXL if you care, evolve them all first to get the Pokedex entries
I'm working with 8225/8375 pokemon storage at the moment.
What I do is the most current pokemon I catch and possibly worth keeping, 3-4*. I'll type that pokemon in and compare it with what I already have. Whatever is better I keep and what is worse I transfer. I usually keep 3-6 of every pokemon, 9-12 if it's a good rare pokemon or legendary. It happens sometimes where the pokemon rotations will bring attention to pokemon I forgot about. Like I just got a Duraludon again and looked it up, I had 12 that I kept when it was new. Don't need that many, transferred 6. Doing that to many pokemon will add up and make plenty of space. The XXL & XXS is a big storage waster like AK pointed out. I have the platinum badges already but I still keep them. I should evolve them, get them in the dex and transfer some. Probably could get another 50-100 new space just from that. It does take time but will save coins and I've gotten better with that lately. That's mainly what I would spend my coins on is pokemon storage.

It took me two entire months to completely clean and catalogue my entire bag last time I tried (from July to September last year).
In exchange for hating every second of it, I gained 1800 spaces. Now I can easy check any poke in a flash. My biggest time sink were the pvp pokes. Yes some pokes are useless for pvp, but it is literally 700x faster to just add them then check pvpoke for availability every time (on top of guaranteeing to already have it if anything changes).
By adding a tag for the 500, 1500, 2500 leagues with 3 "evolution" classes for each, I can fast check if a poke I just caught that CalcyIV said be #27 as 2nd evolution in the 2500 league, just plug that poke and that tag, compare and bam. Done.
The worst offenders are multi track evolutions like Eevees and Oddish, but it is still miles faster than before.
I wish they'd bring back the clones and armored Mewtwo. I had only gotten a couple clone Charizard and maybe a couple Pikachu.
I recommend transferring by searching regions ( Ex. Kanto, Galar, Sinnoh). That way you don't have to do it all at once. Do Kanto one day, Johto another day.
I saved a ton of scorbunny, grookey xxl and no showcase for the comm day. Real disappointed.
