Metagross? More like mega-gross hahahahahah
I just adore Hoenn, it’s my favourite region by far. I love the diverse environments and tropical feel, particularly the more rainforest-y areas which imo haven’t been replicated in any Pokémon game before or since (but that may change with W&W!).
I also love Lavaridge: a hot springs town is one of the cosiest things I can think of. And I love oceans and seascapes, so for me the amount of water is perfect, and I love all the coastal and beach areas.
In terms of Pokemon designs, Hoenn is my favourite overall Pokédex too. Whilst I accept that there’s a bit of a dearth of diversity in fire types, particularly early on, I can’t think of any Pokémon in the Hoenn dex that I actively dislike, beyond occasional disappointment about how bad their stats are (poor Mightyena). The biggest complaint I have is probably Roselia only being a single stage Pokémon on release, but that was fixed with Roserade and Budew. It also has some of my favourite ‘route 1 fodder’: basically all the early game Pokémon have fun and interesting designs, plus it’s really cool that you can reliably pick up a psychic type in Ralts so early in the game.
Generally I think Gen 3 and 4 were the sweet spot in Pokémon design philosophy between overly weird and occasionally problematic (looking at you, Jynx) and overly dictated by the ‘round shapes are kid-friendly’ design doctrine that tends to flatten a lot of art styles it comes into contact with (Advance Wars and Sly Cooper, what did they do to you…).
“Japanese style” pokemon is kinda funny lol… pokemon are already Japanese style

It’s the region they decided to finally LOCK. IN!!
It was a drastic difference when compared to Gen 2 due to Gen 3 being originally meant to be the soft reboot of the franchise (that was changed later in development. Basically, the early precursor to BW). That’s why SO MANY elements in RSE feel very fresh and new!
This game is the start of my love for the Treecko line and Skarmory.
Gen 1, 3, 5 and 8 were great
Gen 2 had like 100 Pokemon but still managed to give us Kingdra, Ampharos, Houndoom, Scizor, Tyranitar and Steelix. Really cool-looking mons.
Gen 3 however, managed to give us 3 great starters, Claydol, Flygon, Camerupt, Milotic, 2 psuedos, 2 cool fossils, etc. Gen 5 gave us Volcarona, Eelektross and Hydreigon. Gen 8 gave us Dragapult, Copperajah and Toxtricity.
I think Gen 3 was one of the best generations ever.

Anyway, let me rap at you about:
– Secret Bases
– Dive music
– introduced the Legendary-based storyline (and knocked it out of the park)
– Trendy Phrase game! (my favorite so far was Treecko Attack)
– unique ashland biome (with fun ash-gathering subgame!)
Bannettes been growing on me tbh
Grovyle was the coolest Pokémon imo, so much I refused to evolve it into sceptile my first play through.
Lots of stuff i love about this region, but I want to specifically shout out my Minun from when i was like, maybe 6 or 7 years old who killed Norman’s Slaking
Hoenn’s the home of my favorite criminally underrated Rock-type, Aggron.
It would also be my favourite steel-type, but it faces stiff competition from Steelix and Corviknight.
