    >Universal’s show the sequel opening to a mammoth $190.1 domestically over the five-day Easter corridor, including a three-day weekend gross of $130.9 million, one of the best showings of all time for the holiday, not adjusted for inflation. Overseas, it launched to an estimated $182.4 million for a global launch not that far behind the first film.

    >Hitting theaters over the same Easter corridor in 2023, the first Mario Bros. Movie posted a five-day domestic debut of $204 million, including a three-day gross of $147 million, one of the best showings of all time for the holiday, not adjusted for inflation. Galaxy also joins the upper reaches of that list.

    >Super Mario Galaxy is achieving a number other milestones, including delivering the year’s biggest three-day opening of the year so far, a record held briefly by sleeper hit Project Hail Mary.

    >Other records and milestones: the biggest global debut of the year to date for a Hollywood movie and one of the biggest worldwide openings ever for an animated film and the fourth-biggest among Hollywood titles alongside Zootopia 2, Moana 2 and Super Mario.

    >Other worldwide highlights include the franchise having now delivered the two biggest global openings ever for a video game adaptation, as well as marking Universal’s fifth-biggest global opening ever behind Super Mario.

    >Among domestic achievements: it scored the third top-grossing weekend for a video game adaptation behind A Minecraft Movie and Super Mario; the only animated franchise to have two titles open to more than $100 over a three-day weekend besides Shrek, Toy Story and Minions; and the biggest five-day domestic launch since Disney’s Moana 2.

Genuinely surprised the consensus rating seems to be low. Thought it was miles better than the first and much more of a ‘Mario’ movie.

Is it the Shawshank Redemption? No. Is it a full-throttle, enjoyable movie if you’re a Nintendo-fan? I’d argue absolutely.

Doing extremely well. Going on my third viewing tonight.

    Go go go!

Great film. Really enjoyed it. Crowd was also very vocally happy.

I’m in the minority but I feel like these movies and their excessive profits are a distraction for Nintendo. As is the theme park. The number of ‘tentpole’ games that come out now is less and less and further apart. There isn’t a need.

Super Mario Galaxy has achieved the 4th biggest opening of any Hollywood animated film ever:

    1. *Zootopia 2* (2025) – $560 million
    2. *Moana 2* (2024) – $389 million
    3. *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* (2023) – $377 million
    4. ***Super Mario Galaxy Movie*** (2026) – $372 million
    5. *Frozen 2* (2019) – 358 million
    6. *Inside Out 2* (2024) – 294 million

Great movie for Easter spring 2026

  8. HuskyBlueBoy

Very fun movie!!! So glad it doesn’t rely on heavy lore and being dark like everything else these days.

  9. VaultHunterChaos

Seen it last night with my best friend and it was great! Dunno why the critics railed on it so hard.

  10. SnackeyG1

Can’t wait to see it on Tuesday. I rarely pay full price anymore when I can wait a few days and pay under $10.

Can some of the box office experts tell me if it is “normal” for the sequel to drop a few million from the first one?

I thought the second one was much better than the first one, but I love both of them

  12. Super_Sandro23

Saw the first screening on Wednesday and absolutely loved it!! The only way it could’ve bee better was if it were 20-25 minutes longer bc I felt it just flew by so quickly!

Best sequel since Godfather Part 2

  13. sakaloko

And yet fellas insist it’s basically the worst movie they saw in their lifes

    People are just dead inside

  14. pixelpanic01

Very well deserved. I got goosebumps at the end when Mario was flying in the galaxy 💙

  15. Hill_Orc_Warrior

Oh god, does this mean it was somehow worse than the first Mario movie

  16. MrShape246

Now here’s my question is it going to surpass the originals total of 1.36B i think it has a shot

  17. EctoBlaster1985

Up yours, critics! Those are the same critics that enjoyed the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

  18. Despacio1316

Those Zootopia numbers are insane for a movie whose sequel was so far away from its original release. I’m a little disappointed Mario can’t see those type of numbers considering it’s been a pop culture icon for 40 years.

Pigs at the trough, Man.  Pigs at the trough.

  20. That’s because pretty much every movie for the last 3 years has sucked. Everyone’s hoping for a miracle

  21. yerepumk

The movie is so bad in so many ways… Missed opportunity.

  22. melancious

Watched in 3D and preordered the UHD BD. No remorse.

  23. spiderman897

I actually thought it was ok but I just feel if thy cut some stuff and made it more focused it’d be way better. Loved the moments with bowser and the Mario bros but they cut that so short so early on.

  24. ItsYaBoyBackAgain

I really wish the spent more time developing an actual story. Fantastic animation and music though, not enough for me to say I liked it but I’m happy other people do.

  25. omgitsduaner

It was such a fun movie, can’t wait for a third one. I hope it’s already in the works

  26. Wolfeman0101

Everyone is obsessed with the rotten tomatoes score or critical reception. Bro it’s a kids move and kids love it.

  27. CrimsonEnigma

Honestly? It was better than I expected.

I won’t call it good, but the plot was consistent enough (with one possible exception), and the animation, while not Pixar-quality, was beautiful.

  28. caribbean_caramel

But I was told that it was a bad movie by people who hate nintendo…
