I am very much out of the Overwatch loop. Is this a Switch 2 version of Overwatch 1 or 2? Has 2 essentially dropped the ‘2’ from the name at this point? I kinda feel like I heard something about that at some point.

This is a disaster. It is still 30 fps and if anything it’s a downgrade from the already bad performance of the original client.
I’m not sure if this is a mistake or what. But it’s definitely not worth your time. Hopefully they uploaded the wrong version and a fix is coming.

I have a feeling that when the news broke that Marvel Rivals was coming to the Switch 2, the Overwatch team rushed to release a Switch 2 version, but they failed miserably.

Mine looks great, loads amazing… Doesn’t look like Xbox Series or PlayStation, but handheld looks superb.
Check that you downloaded the Switch 2 version of the game.
Is it the best version? It’s not. But I haven’t had any crashes and I played 3 hours straight comp matches. It looks ok, wish the fps were better ngl. But… UNPLAYABLE? Jesus, people, you need to play something REALLY unplayable. This is not it.
