I saw a theory of mimikyu being a porigon, but I have another theory of what mimikyu could be.
Mimikyu is a clefairy(kinda). Clefairy was supposed to be the mascot for pokemon Company. Even Red had a talking clefairy as a starter in a manga, but that was changed when the anime came out. The item pokedoll we see in the Kanto games (that copycat has, for example) is a clefairy doll. "But how that relates to mimikyu?" I'll get there. Now, let's look at mimikyu, more specifically in its Z move. The move is a fairy type and consists of mimikyu jumping on the enemy, trapping it inside its costume and attacking using its true form. Again, it is a fairy type move, so whatever is inside that costume is not a ghost, is a fairy. The name of the move is "let's snuggle forever," Normally, snuggle is something you do with dolls, to show love and affection, and where exactly is mimikyu first encountered in the gen 7 games? THRIFTY MEGASTORE, an abandoned supermarket that sold toys. In the manga, Elio finds a mimikyu and mistakes it for a really creepy doll. He even compares to a Pikachu doll, also found in the scraps. Where do I wanna get with this is that mimikyu is a pokedoll that never got bought because of pikachu's popularity, and just like a banette that the hate caused it to gain life, so did mimikyu. But instead of the hate towards its previous owner, since it never had one, mimikyu's hate was towards the being that took their place.
But what do you think?
