So I tried to make a Voltorb costume for a pokemon-themed party using paper mache over a big balloon, everything was going perfectly fine until the third layer of paper mache… but yeah, the balloon did not survive 💀
Now I’m left with this sad wrinkly paper mache shell that looks like it went through a war, and it also collapsed in a way that I can really only wear it like a coat or similar. At this point I’m pivoting, but what Pokémon could this even resemble now? I was thinking maybe Graveler or Garbodor…
Open to suggestions before I paint it and fully commit to whatever this has become

use 2 hula hoop as a wireframe so you don’t need to fill the balloon, you just need to put it over so you have someting to put the paper mache on top.
Get whimsical and it could be a Voltorb mid explosion/self destruct. I don’t have a creative bone in my body, just a thought

How did it end up warped like that?
Make another and go for Scovillain heads? Or Roselia/Roserade hands. Bulba/I’ve/Venusaur flowers. Given the wrinkly shape I’m inclined to picture flowers or rocks, but you could maybe do manes too for like Growlithe or something.
For future reference, next time use either diluted white glue (like school stuff, Elmer’s) or plaster strips and try for light paper (think phone book) for the first layer or two. Use a beach ball (stronger and more round while still being fairly cheap). Also use a mold release spray or patroleum jelly before the first layer (easier to release the balloon/ball after done or if it pops).
Start over? It’s paper mache, it’s not like you are breaking the bank here

Paint blue-green, cut big hole (maybe cover hole with black sheer cloth, like cut up Dollar Tree panties and paint/tape eyes on it), then wear reddish shoes for Tangela/Tangrowth?

Mega Malamar head maybe? Could wear a collared cape or something with it and twirl ribbons around with your arms lol
Did you let the layers dry completely before each one? What binder did you use in the paper mache (glue, flour?)
Does the size need to be specific? Maybe you could do a beach ball instead?
