I had some gripes with Pokemon typing and I wanted a second opinion of my ideas



Annoyingly I can't post the screenshot so it will be in a comment. Also making some changes to types not on the damage table. As weather and conditions are tied to some types, I listed some of those changes I would like to see as well.

  • Poisoned condition causes pokemon to take 1.2x more damage
  • Poison spikes are reduced by one layer when it inflicts poison
  • Badly poisoned is reduced by only one stage on switching out
  • Some draining moves (leach life, absorb, mega drain, and giga drain) used on poison pokemon instead harm the pokemon for half the health they would have restored unless they are a poison type or would heal from poison.
  • Leach Seed has a 33% chance of being removed each turn on a poison type and will not heal pokemon if put on a poison type (popup would say "leaching seeds have withered away")
  • Bug is immune to confusion (most bugs are deaf)
  • Replace freeze with frostbite (SpA burn)
  • Rain and sun no longer boosts the damage of water and fire moves (makes these weathers defensive instead)
  • Steel types are now immune to hail (because hail needs something to be relevant)

If you want more details, I do have some other weather conditions that should make battles more dynamic benefiting other types more. They are not that flushed out yet and are heavily based on this Lockstin & Gnoggin's video.

    Hail doesn’t exist anymore, it’s snow now. It boosts Ice Types’ defence by 50%

    Also poison does not need an additional effect, it’s already very strong

    I present to you: the ability liquid ooze

    On the other points, removing weather boosts would slow down battles, and special attackers already have to deal with assault vest when physical attackers dont.
