So I was thinking of maybe using Mega Pinsir in Pheromosa raids tomorrow to try and grab both Flying damage *and* XL candy boost but when I checked the Dex, it turns out Pinsir gets *0* Flying moves, either fast or charged.
In the Main games, it only gets 2 Flying moves (as of gen 9): Aerial Ace (in GO) and Dual Wingbeat (not in GO). Assuming Niantic won't make Dual Wingbeat a solid move when they eventually add it, that leaves the abysmal Aerial Ace which doesn't even remotely make Mega Pinsir a good Flyer.
That's where in the Main games, Mega Pinsir's ability Aerilate (M Salamence also gets this but doesn't need it in GO) comes in. It turns any Normal attack into a Flying one (and boosts them by 20%) and this makes mega Pinsir a solid Flying attacker.
What if Niantic were to create a system where Normal moves change into Flying *without altering any stats* but only on Mega Pinsir and only in Gyms/Raids if undesirable/too complicated for GBL? It only gets Vise Grip now (which is a horrible move) but if they gave it Hyper Beam or Giga Impact, it will become a solid Flying attacker and become top tier under Party Power.
Any thoughts? I honestly hate to see a 305 base attack mon go to waste on one of its typings like this.

No thanks.
Niantic rarely ever does anything thoughtful to balance or revamp standard raids so likely not happening. Super Mega Raids & Unity raids are their latest and most frustratingly controversial content
Abilities aren’t in pokemon go , why would they make a special case for pinsir?
Aerilate won’t happen, as neat as it would be.
As for Flying Moves, well… It can’t get any from the MSG
Pinsir can learn aerial ace, which already exists on other mons in PoGo, so its possible that Pinsir might eventually be able learn it.
Not sure if it would do a whole lot for the meta, because Mega Rayquaza would still obliterate it. Rayquaza has kind of killed flying types in general.
Why would Mega Pinsir get to have their ability be adapted for PoGo?
The only Pokémon that get that priveledge are ones who undergo form changes through them like Mimikyu, Aegislash or Morpeko.
Unfortunately, it wouldn’t matter since Mega Ray would massively outshine it as a Flying attacker anyway
I mean that’d improve Pinsir, but that is a lot of hoops to jump through for what ultimately would just be an okay Flying mega. Especially since if they gave Aerilate to Mega Pinsir, there’s no reason they couldn’t give it to Salamance as well, and it’d outstrip Pinsir as a Flying Mega.
To say nothing of Mega Rayquaza being in its own league, of course.
They need to just accept that allowing certain Pokemon to have abilities would be better for everyone. For the Pokemon, for those who are fans of said Pokemon, and for the developers, because we will be incentivized to do raids for them.
To be fair, Pheromosa is that flimsy that you really don’t *need* to use a Mega against it. There are plenty of Flying types that can solo it. Pokébattler even seems to suggest it’s possible with the right counters at level 20 in neutral weather (can’t say I’ve tried it with Pokémon that low of a level personally, but I can believe it). So just Mega a Bug or Fighting type and then ignore it in your lineup.
If you give mega pinsir aerilate you have to give it to mega salamence as well, makes it dead in the water. And honestly if pinsir gets his ability, every other Pokémon in the game should as well at that point. That’s literally not fair. There’s a ton of Pokémon that would be viable if they had access to their abilities.
So why would they implement Aerialate? They rarely implement abilities unless they’re crucial to the functionality of the Pokemon. That is CLEARLY not the case with Pinsir, as it didn’t get an Aerialate substitute in Lets Go.
Dual wingbeat should be added.
TIL this screen exists.
They could give mega mawile and mega medicham their PLZA stats that compensate the lack of huge power, but they don’t, so I don’t count on them giving them anything to Pinsir either
At least in champions it got Aerial Ace
Maybe because no one cares
Niantic will never do this because this is a cool idea.
