Came to my parents house with my brother (1.5y younger) after a while and found two box full of tcg, one of pokemon and magic, and another one with yugioh cards.
We didn’t play much pokemon. More yugioh at the beginning, when we were 5 or 6 y.o. and magic after, but I remembered we had some cool cards, specially pokemon and yugioh.
As we opened the pokemon cards box, we started searching for the rarest cards. Found some, but the charizard broke my heart. The rubber band melt and stick with the card. As we were kids and didn’t have played that much, we have not sleeved the cards. Got luckier with yugioh cards though.
If you have kids and they are starting collecting cards, please teach them to preserve the cards.

penny sleeves and card shops were rare back then
maybe you can gently heat the rubber/card and remove it from the card?
