So, I'm sure some of you already know that Nintendo renewed the trademark of Virtual Console back in October of last year, which led many like myself to believe that they'd bring back the service in the future, but according to this post, that's not the case, because they said that NSO will remain the only way to play classic games in the forseeable future: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2026/02/nintendo-seemingly-rules-out-virtual-console-revival-says-it-remains-focused-on-offering-classics-via-switch-online
I wanna ask this: what exactly was the point of renewing the trademark if they won't bring back VC? I understand that it would hurt the sales of NSO should it be revived, but how can you just renew the license of the brand and then do nothing with it? Just to tease your fans out there? Just to spite them? This sounds like the Gwimbly CEO from Smiling Friends who says "It's MY IP to sit on and do nothing with!" and this is Nintendo with Virtual Console. They might as well just revoke it at this point.
