I made Google Earth for Pokemon – PokeCompass (“living” Pokemon game maps)

Hey there!

My name is Jon and I wanted to share a project I've been working on for a while now that I just finished called PokeCompass: https://pokecompass.com/

I was tired of trying to use online websites/tools to locate where each Pokemon was in every single game across all the gens. It can be pretty exhausting scrolling through text and looking at pics to try and figure out where to catch em all. I wanted an easy way to complete the dex.

Then I had an idea; what if there was a Google Earth style world map of where to catch every single Pokemon across Gens 1-9. I thought it would be really cool if it felt "alive" and wasn't just a static image. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this project. I have quite a bit of experience coding but this project was a beast. There's so much data and from a UI/UX standpoint, trying to make this easy to navigate/use was honestly the hardest part. There was so much that went into this.

You can search from the globe view for regions and view your living dex from there. Within each region you can search by pokemon, location, etc to quickly jump around and fill out each region's dex as you go. I added fun little easter eggs from the Pokemon universe too.

This project is definitely still a work in progress as this is v1 and you may find some bugs. I literally just pushed this live a few minutes ago, but I plan to keep working on it and making it even better! Please feel free to share your feedback and what you think I can do to improve it and make this the best realtime map for Pokemon games possible.

Oh and it's completely free. 🙂 Hope you enjoy it! Thanks and have a great day!
