The well-versed Nintendo fans out there are very well aware of the tumultuous relationship that Nintendo and Amazon have had over the years. The two companies seemed to be at odds with one another, as Nintendo products would disappear from sale randomly, and neither Amazon or Nintendo would explain. Eventually, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé revealed that Amazon supposedly wanted Nintendo to employ a pricing tactic that Reggie felt was illegal, so Nintendo stopped working with the mega retailer.

As time went on it appears that Nintendo and Amazon smoothed things over, as Nintendo products once again emerged on the digital storefront. Since then, we’ve seen Amazon and Nintendo working more closely to not only provide products for customers to buy, but also ensure that they’re getting what they pay for. Today we’re seeing the latest step in those efforts.

While you can buy Nintendo products on Amazon straight from Nintendo, there are also third party retailers on the platform. Some of them have been known to engage in shady dealings, and Nintendo has been none too pleased about that. That has led to the most recent update on Amazon, which now shows a special “Nintendo approved” label under the “Brand” section of the checkout section.

The “Nintendo approved” label is used for products that are being sold straight from Nintendo or through a Nintendo-approved seller. In other words, if you’re buying a Nintendo product on Amazon and it doesn’t include that label, Nintendo and Amazon can’t promise with 100% accuracy that you’ll get a legitimate product. If you happen to be an Amazon shopper, be sure to keep an eye out for the “Nintendo approved” label going forward, as that way you’ll be guaranteed a quality, official product.
