Minecraft announces Sift, the game's first new dimension in over 14 years

Minecraft revealed some major news today, announcing that the Sift is joining the game. This will be available in 2027.

The Sift will be Minecraft’s first new dimension in more than 14 years. It follows the Overworld, Nether, End.

Players will actually be able to experience the Sift first in Minecraft Dungeons 2, which launches next week. In that game, players will have to fight their way through the dimension and save the world.

Here’s what Mojang Studios has to say about it:

This new dimension is called the Sift, and it lives in the new, interconnected Dungeons world that Art Director Ullis Linder and Game Director Måns Olson showed off. Where in the first game your missions were level-based, Dungeons 2 introduces an interconnected world. And jumping! Hooray! That will come in handy as there are lots of rifts that appear throughout the world. If you do stumble across and then into one, it will transport you to the Sift.

The Sift is beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls. It’s also the first dimension to be added in over fourteen years. No wonder it looks so good! And it features areas like the Meadow and the Carapace. Ok, ok, ok. You got me. I’m totally ready to save the world now!

Minecraft is out now on Nintendo Switch with a Switch 2 version arriving next month while Minecraft Dungeons 2 hits both consoles on September 29. Read more about Minecraft here.
